Description
Issue, cash, and manage USPS money orders at post offices or authorized contract units; verify identification, collect fees, complete required forms, detect fraud, reconcile cash and negotiable stock, and assist customers with inquiries, replacements, and regulatory compliance.
  • • Sell and issue domestic and international money orders, compute fees, and collect payment.
  • • Cash money orders after verifying authenticity, endorsements, and eligibility.
  • • Verify customer identification and eligibility in accordance with USPS and federal requirements.
  • • Record transactions and money order serial numbers in the POS system.
  • • Maintain money drawers and reconcile daily cash, fees, and money order inventory.
  • • Inspect money orders for alterations, counterfeits, and security features.
  • • Complete required anti–money laundering forms and reports for large or suspicious transactions.
  • • Assist customers with inquiries, limits, fees, processing times, and tracking.
  • • Process refunds, inquiries, and replacements for lost, stolen, or damaged money orders.
  • • Obtain required signatures and endorsements on issued or cashed money orders.
  • • Provide guidance to customers on properly filling out money orders.
  • • Respond to complaints and refer suspected fraud or irregularities for investigation.
  • • Secure cash, negotiable instruments, and money order stock; maintain chain-of-custody logs.
  • • Use electronic scanners and POS equipment to validate and log money orders.
  • • Balance end-of-day reports and prepare deposits and documentation.
  • • Order, receive, and track money order forms and related retail supplies.
  • • Comply with USPS policies, privacy rules, and federal financial regulations.
  • • Coordinate with supervisors, inspectors, or law enforcement on compliance or fraud cases.
