Description
Conduct neutral, legally sound interviews of victims and witnesses—often children—in suspected abuse or crime cases. Use evidence-based protocols to elicit accurate information, document and record statements, coordinate with investigators and child protection partners, and prepare objective reports for casework and court.
  • • Conduct developmentally and culturally appropriate forensic interviews using approved protocols.
  • • Ask nonleading, open-ended questions to obtain detailed, reliable accounts of events.
  • • Identify and clarify inconsistencies without suggestion; document verbatim statements and observed behaviors.
  • • Explain interview objectives, process, and ground rules to children and caregivers; obtain consent/assent.
  • • Coordinate with law enforcement, child protective services, prosecutors, and medical or mental health providers before and after interviews.
  • • Audio/video record interviews and ensure proper labeling, secure storage, and chain of custody.
  • • Compile, code, and enter interview data and demographics into case management systems.
  • • Review recordings and notes for completeness and accuracy; prepare objective summaries.
  • • Prepare detailed reports and case updates for investigators and attorneys.
  • • Schedule interviews, contact families, and arrange safe, trauma-informed logistics at the center or field locations.
  • • Testify in court or administrative hearings regarding interview procedures and findings.
  • • Identify and report immediate safety concerns; make or support mandated reports as required by law.
  • • Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and meetings; present findings and recommendations.
  • • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to legal, ethical, and accreditation standards.
  • • Assist families with referrals to medical, mental health, and victim services; provide basic crisis support within role scope.
  • • Train, mentor, or peer-review other interviewers and engage in ongoing professional development and quality assurance.
