Description
Coordinate and oversee outbound shipping operations by scheduling carriers, preparing documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance and on-time, cost-effective delivery, and serving as the liaison among warehouse, carriers, and customers.
- • Enforce shipping, dock, and carrier safety rules and regulatory compliance.
- • Plan shipment schedules, carrier bookings, and dock assignments to meet service and cost targets.
- • Communicate with customers, carriers, and internal teams to share shipment details and resolve issues.
- • Troubleshoot delays, damages, or documentation errors and drive corrective actions.
- • Review sales orders, pick tickets, and shipping notices to set priorities, modes, and destinations.
- • Recommend and implement process improvements to reduce freight costs and improve on-time performance.
- • Maintain accurate records of shipments, carrier invoices, freight costs, and proofs of delivery.
- • Interpret and apply tariff, hazmat, export/import, and company policy requirements.
- • Train staff on shipping procedures, labeling, documentation, and system use.
- • Prepare and submit shipment logs, KPI dashboards, and incident reports.
- • Provide staffing and performance feedback to supervisors for the shipping area.
- • Reorder shipping supplies and request equipment or carrier capacity as needed.
- • Inspect outbound loads, packaging, and trailers for accuracy, damage, and compliance.
- • Calculate freight quotes, accessorials, and optimal modes; forecast capacity needs.
- • Coordinate expedited shipments and rerouting during exceptions or emergencies.
- • Submit service tickets and schedule maintenance for dock doors, scales, and shipping equipment.
- • Verify weights, dimensions, classifications, and special handling requirements.
- • Operate WMS/TMS, scales, and scanners to process and label shipments.
- • Monitor staging and loading to ensure correct load sequence and securement.
- • Assist warehouse staff with staging, labeling, and loading during peak periods.
- • Coordinate pickup appointments and dock times with carriers and warehouse teams.
- • Build and publish daily shipping schedules and carrier dispatch plans.
