Description
Oversee and optimize company fleet operations, supervising drivers and dispatch while managing vehicle lifecycle, safety, compliance, maintenance, and cost to meet service goals.
- • Enforce fleet safety policies and DOT/FMCSA regulations.
- • Plan routes, driver assignments, and vehicle allocation to meet service and production goals.
- • Coordinate with operations, customers, and vendors to resolve delivery or service issues.
- • Address driver concerns and collaborate with HR or operations to resolve problems.
- • Review dispatch plans, work orders, and schedules to determine sequences, volumes, and destinations.
- • Implement initiatives to improve driver engagement, fuel efficiency, and customer service.
- • Maintain records of driver hours, fuel, maintenance, inspections, and fleet costs.
- • Interpret transportation laws, permits, and company policies for drivers and staff.
- • Onboard new drivers and assign training on safety, compliance, and systems.
- • Prepare and submit reports on fleet utilization, on-time performance, maintenance, and incidents.
- • Participate in hiring, evaluations, rewards, and disciplinary actions for drivers and dispatchers.
- • Procure vehicles, parts, fuel, telematics, and repair services; manage vendor relationships.
- • Conduct vehicle inspections and audits to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
- • Forecast and manage fleet budgets, total cost of ownership, staffing, and capacity needs.
- • Coordinate emergency response, roadside assistance, and incident reporting.
- • Schedule and track preventive maintenance, repairs, and recalls.
- • Verify load weights, securement, and permitting or hazmat requirements when applicable.
- • Move vehicles or operate equipment as needed to support operations.
- • Monitor driver performance with telematics and ride-alongs; coach for improvement.
- • Oversee yard operations, fueling, and loading or unloading activities.
- • Develop and maintain fleet schedules, shift rosters, and maintenance windows.
