Description
Design and construct precision textile patterns and repeat layouts for woven, knitted, and printed fabrics, translating artwork into production-ready files and specifications. May also prepare and cut sample swatches and strike-offs.
- • Create seamless repeat patterns and engineered layouts using textile CAD.
- • Test patterns by producing and evaluating strike-offs, lab dips, and woven/knit samples.
- • Define color separations, colorways, and screen or rotary print parameters.
- • Develop weave drafts, jacquard maps, and knit charts for production machines.
- • Determine optimal repeat sizes and placements to fit fabric widths and reduce waste.
- • Collaborate with designers to convert artwork and briefs into technical textile patterns.
- • Calculate shrinkage, skew, stretch, and registration allowances and adjust repeats.
- • Label samples and files with repeat size, scale, color codes, and process instructions.
- • Review sketches and specs to set motif scale, color counts, yarns, and constructions.
- • Prepare and export machine-ready files and production instructions for mills and vendors.
- • Digitize, clean, and vectorize motifs to meet resolution and registration requirements.
- • Create placement and panel patterns for engineered prints, borders, and placements.
- • Plan and cut sample yardage and swatches; mount and organize samples for review.
- • Revise patterns after sample reviews and quality checks; maintain version control.
- • Enter and maintain pattern and process data in PLM/CAD libraries.
- • Ensure compliance with performance, safety, and brand standards in pattern specs.
