Description
Test Technician (Test Tech) sets up, operates, and maintains test equipment to evaluate electromechanical, robotic, and automated systems. Follows test procedures and engineering drawings, captures and analyzes data, and troubleshoots faults to restore performance. Supports engineers with verification and validation, calibration, and safe, compliant lab operations.
- • Set up and execute test procedures for electromechanical assemblies using oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, and data acquisition tools.
- • Interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and test specifications to determine test methods and sequences.
- • Install and wire test articles or fixtures; solder components and route harnesses per standards.
- • Assemble, align, and secure components in test setups using hand or power tools, fixtures, and microscopes.
- • Inspect units and test fixtures for workmanship and surface defects.
- • Verify critical dimensions, torques, and clearances with calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- • Fabricate or modify simple test brackets, jigs, or enclosures using basic machine tools.
- • Calibrate, test, and troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromechanical subsystems to meet specifications.
- • Train operators or peers on safe use of test stations and procedures.
- • Run acceptance tests on robotic or automated systems and log issues for corrective action.
- • Operate, test, and maintain robotic or automated test equipment used in demanding or hazardous applications when required.
- • Record, analyze, and report test results; maintain traceable test logs and nonconformance reports.
- • Assist in reviewing designs for testability and selecting instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition methods.
- • Provide basic cost or time estimates for test methods or fixtures when comparing alternatives.
- • Collaborate with machinists and fabrication teams to ensure test fixtures meet specifications.
- • Confirm components and materials used in testing meet environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- • Support implementation of environmental, EHS, and 5S practices in the test lab.
- • Maintain inventory and calibration records for test equipment, fixtures, and consumables.
- • Build or rework cables, harnesses, and subassemblies for test purposes.
- • Identify opportunities to reduce test waste, cycle time, or energy usage.
- • Install and configure instrumentation, sensors, and test software on microcontroller- or PC-based systems.
- • Troubleshoot and repair test stations and units under test to restore proper function.
- • Generate test setups, wiring diagrams, or simple mechanical drawings in CAD as needed.
- • Select appropriate probes, loads, environmental chambers, and diagnostic techniques for tests.
- • Recommend components, fixtures, or equipment to meet test requirements and specifications.
- • Execute and support quality-control checks, calibrations, and audits of test processes.
- • Translate engineering requirements into clear test procedures and acceptance criteria.
- • Assist engineers with prototype bring-up, validation, and production test implementation.
