Electromechanical Technicians (EM Technicians) build, install, operate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain electromechanical, automated, servomechanical, and robotic systems. They interpret schematics and drawings, assemble and calibrate components, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and document results. EM Technicians support engineers with prototyping, integration, and field operations, including equipment used in unmanned or hazardous environments.
- • Test performance of electromechanical assemblies using oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and data acquisition tools.
- • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and schematics to plan assembly and troubleshooting steps.
- • Install electrical or electronic parts, connectors, and hardware using soldering, crimping, and hand tools.
- • Align, fit, and assemble mechanical components using hand or power tools, fixtures, and microscopes as required.
- • Inspect parts and assemblies for cosmetic and functional surface defects.
- • Verify dimensions, tolerances, and clearances using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and optical tools.
- • Operate basic metalworking machines and 3D printers to fabricate brackets, panels, jigs, or enclosures.
- • Repair, rework, and calibrate pneumatic and hydraulic actuators, valves, and systems.
- • Program, teach, and troubleshoot industrial robots, motion controllers, and servo systems under engineering guidance.
- • Operate, test, and maintain automated or robotic equipment used in hazardous or green-production applications.
- • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electromechanical systems to minimize downtime.
- • Prepare accurate documentation of test procedures, results, as-built configurations, and service reports.
- • Translate engineering designs into build lists, wiring schedules, and test setups; provide feedback for improvements.
- • Collect and analyze basic performance data to support quality, reliability, and cost tracking.
- • Collaborate with machinists and fabricators to ensure parts meet fit, finish, and functional requirements.
- • Verify components and materials meet specifications and regulatory requirements (e.g., UL, RoHS, REACH).
- • Follow EHS, LOTO, and ESD procedures; handle hazardous materials and waste per guidelines.
- • Establish and maintain inventory, spare parts, tools, and calibration or maintenance records.
- • Fabricate and assemble cable harnesses; route wiring and pneumatics to standards.
- • Install and configure PLCs, HMIs, sensors, drives, and microcontroller-based hardware and firmware.
- • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, electronic, mechanical, and control issues to component or module level.
- • Create or update CAD drawings, wiring diagrams, and BOMs to reflect as-built systems.
- • Select and use diagnostic techniques and software to commission drives, tune servos, and verify I/O.
- • Source, evaluate, and recommend electromechanical components and vendors to meet specifications.
- • Perform incoming inspection and in-process quality checks; support root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- • Convert drawings and specifications into work instructions and build travelers using basic engineering math.
- • Assist engineers with prototyping, integration, and field deployment of automation and unmanned systems.
- • Train operators and technicians on equipment installation, operation, and routine maintenance.
