Description
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial and commercial batteries, battery packs, and charging systems to ensure safe, reliable power.
- • Diagnose batteries and chargers using multimeters, hydrometers, and load testers.
- • Measure voltage, current, resistance, temperature, and specific gravity to assess health.
- • Read work orders, schematics, and service manuals to plan repairs.
- • Document findings, repairs, parts used, and labor time.
- • Install chargers, battery banks, and change-out stations per code and specs.
- • Configure charger profiles and setpoints via menus or PC software.
- • Repair or replace fuses, diodes, IGBTs, contactors, fans, and connectors.
- • Verify charger output voltage, current, ripple, and safety functions.
- • Disassemble and reassemble chargers or battery enclosures to access components.
- • Clean and neutralize corrosion on terminals, trays, and connectors; apply protectant.
- • Crimp, solder, and heat-shrink cables and terminals for secure insulation.
- • Equalize and balance batteries; perform conditioning or refresh cycles.
- • Check electrolyte levels; add deionized water to flooded cells as needed.
- • Replace failed cells or modules; spot-weld or restrap interconnects when required.
- • Conduct capacity and conductance tests; record state-of-health metrics.
- • Monitor for overheating using infrared thermometers or thermal cameras.
- • Inspect cable routing, strain relief, and connector alignment; correct issues.
- • Maintain inventory of batteries, parts, tools, and consumables.
- • Operate hoists and battery-changing equipment; follow safe lifting procedures.
- • Perform preventive maintenance on chargers, including cleaning filters and fans.
- • Service battery-watering systems and wash stations; verify proper operation.
- • Inspect safety interlocks, emergency stops, and disconnects for functionality.
- • Update charger firmware and software when required.
- • Apply lockout/tagout and PPE; handle acids and lithium components safely.
- • Recycle or dispose of spent batteries and neutralized waste per regulations.
- • Verify AC supply, grounding, and GFCI protection at charging bays.
- • Test insulation resistance and continuity of cables with a megohmmeter.
- • Provide on-site diagnostics and repairs for field service calls.
- • Train operators on safe battery handling, charging, and maintenance practices.
