Description
Diagnose, repair, and maintain corded and cordless power tools, servicing motors, wiring, switches, batteries, chargers, and mechanical components to restore safe, reliable operation.
- • Inspect and test power tools to locate worn or damaged parts and diagnose malfunctions.
- • Measure rpm, amperage, voltage, and load using multimeters, tachometers, and wattmeters.
- • Disassemble tools using hand and power tools to access components.
- • Repair or replace cords, plugs, switches, triggers, brushes, and wiring harnesses.
- • Replace or service motors, armatures, field coils, and electronic controllers.
- • Repair or replace mechanical parts such as bearings, gears, chuck assemblies, guards, and housings.
- • Solder, crimp, and heat-shrink electrical connections to ensure proper insulation.
- • Reassemble tools to manufacturer specifications and verify safety features.
- • Lubricate bearings, gear trains, and moving components.
- • Clean housings, vents, contacts, and battery terminals; remove dust and debris.
- • Test tools under no-load and load to check speed, torque, noise, and overheating.
- • Calibrate and align chucks, bases, fences, and guards using gauges and jigs.
- • Read service manuals, schematics, and work orders to determine required repairs.
- • Maintain parts inventory and order common replacement items.
- • Record diagnostics, repairs performed, parts used, labor time, and test results.
- • Diagnose and repair battery chargers and charging ports.
- • Test battery packs for capacity and health; replace packs per policy.
- • Update or configure firmware on brushless tools and smart chargers when required.
- • Replace carbon brushes, leads, and terminals; dress commutators as needed.
- • Install insulating sleeves, grommets, and seals to protect wiring and components.
- • Perform ground continuity and insulation resistance tests on corded tools.
- • Seal housings and gaskets to maintain dust and moisture protection.
- • Balance, clean, and service grinding, sanding, and cutting accessories.
- • Sharpen or replace blades and bits according to shop policy.
- • Set up and use test fixtures, jigs, and computer-based diagnostics.
- • Ensure compliance with safety standards and document quality checks.
- • Provide repair estimates, obtain approvals, and process warranty claims.
