Description
Operate yard gantry or tower cranes to safely lift, move, and stack containers or materials within a storage yard, following load charts and site procedures.
- • Determine load weights and verify against crane capacities to prevent overload.
- • Operate crane controls to lift, move, and place containers or materials per work orders.
- • Inspect spreaders, slings, cables, hooks, and twistlocks for wear and replace or rig as needed.
- • Clean, lubricate, and maintain hoists, cables, sheaves, and spreaders, reporting defects.
- • Inspect and adjust brakes, limit switches, alarms, and anti-collision systems to prevent malfunctions.
- • Coordinate with signalers and ground crew; direct helpers for chocking, blocking, and safe landings.
- • Load or unload trucks and railcars and transfer items to designated yard slots.
- • Record load data, container IDs, and movements in the yard management system.
- • Capture or verify weights as required and document per company or regulatory requirements.
- • Review shift plans, stacking layouts, and delivery schedules to prioritize moves.
- • Guide truck drivers to correct lanes and positions and secure or release twistlocks safely.
- • Inspect containers or loads for damage, labeling, and compliance; update records accordingly.
