Description
Operate overhead, gantry, or mobile cranes using handheld radio remote controls to safely lift, move, and position materials; perform pre-use inspections, monitor capacities, and coordinate with riggers and drivers.
  • • Verify load weight and center of gravity against crane and rigging capacities before lifting.
  • • Conduct pre-use checks of crane, radio transmitter/receiver, batteries, emergency stops, and limit switches.
  • • Operate hoist, trolley/bridge travel, swing, and attachments via handheld radio remote to lift, move, and place loads.
  • • Maintain line-of-sight and clear travel paths; halt operations for hazards or communication loss.
  • • Inspect hooks, wire rope, chains, slings, spreader bars, and grapples; remove damaged gear from service and request replacement.
  • • Clean, lubricate, and perform basic maintenance on hoists, rigging, and remote equipment; document and report defects.
  • • Adjust and secure lifting accessories and end effectors; verify latches and load balance prior to lift.
  • • Coordinate with riggers/spotters using standard hand signals or radios; direct blocking, cribbing, or outrigger placement when applicable.
  • • Load and unload trucks and move materials to storage or production areas per work orders.
  • • Weigh loads with scales or load indicators and record results in logs or systems.
  • • Coordinate truck positioning and load securement (e.g., tarping, banding); verify packaging/labeling meets requirements and file tags/tickets.
