Description
Operate overhead bridge cranes and hoists to safely lift, move, and position materials within plants, warehouses, or yards, using pendant, cab, or remote controls and adhering to load limits and safety procedures.
  • • Determine load weights and verify against crane and hoist capacities before lifting.
  • • Operate bridge, trolley, and hoist via pendant, cab, or remote to lift, travel, and lower loads.
  • • Attach, secure, and detach loads using slings, chains, spreader bars, magnets, grabs, or C-hooks.
  • • Inspect wire rope, chains, hooks, latches, slings, and below-the-hook devices; remove from service or replace as needed.
  • • Perform pre-shift and pre-lift inspections of cranes, hoists, limit switches, brakes, and controls.
  • • Clean, lubricate, and perform minor maintenance on hoists, wire rope, sheaves, and runway components; report defects.
  • • Follow hand signals and radio instructions; coordinate with riggers and spotters during lifts.
  • • Review work orders and lift plans; plan travel paths, check for obstructions, and maintain safe clearances.
  • • Position materials onto production lines, in racks, or onto trucks or railcars; assist with loading and unloading.
  • • Use load indicators or scales to weigh materials and record weights in logs or inventory systems.
  • • Comply with company procedures and OSHA/ASME safety standards; apply lockout/tagout when required.
