Apply engineering judgment to evaluate installations, operations, and maintenance activities, document findings, and recommend corrective actions.
- • Inspect installation and rehabilitation of water, sewer, gas, electric, and telecom utilities for quality, safety, and compliance with codes, permits, and utility standards.
- • Monitor trenching, shoring, traffic control, and right-of-way activities to ensure adherence to safety regulations and utility procedures.
- • Review and interpret utility plans, profiles, one-lines, specifications, and method statements for compliance and constructability.
- • Verify depth of cover, horizontal and vertical separations, slope, alignment, and elevations using survey equipment and measuring devices.
- • Observe installation of pipes, conduits, cables, transformers, regulators, valves, hydrants, manholes, vaults, and meters for proper materials and workmanship.
- • Witness and document pressure, leakage, mandrel, vacuum, and disinfection tests on mains and services.
- • Perform leak surveys and atmospheric monitoring with gas detectors and verify confined-space entry testing.
- • Inspect corrosion control systems, coatings, and cathodic protection readings for pipelines and appurtenances.
- • Inspect substations, switchgear, pump stations, lift stations, and SCADA-related equipment for safe operation and compliance.
- • Maintain daily inspection reports, photographs, redlines, and GIS or as-built data.
- • Issue deficiency notices, recommend corrective actions, and verify remediation.
- • Approve service connections, tie-ins, restorations, or energization after requirements are met.
- • Coordinate with contractors, utility crews, property owners, and agencies to resolve conflicts and protect existing facilities.
- • Verify locating and marking of existing utilities and oversee potholing and crossing protection.
- • Monitor erosion and sediment controls, spill prevention, and site restoration to meet environmental and permit requirements.
- • Conduct inspections using locators, GPS, pressure gauges, flow meters, multimeters, or other test equipment.
