Description
Inspect plumbing systems in residential, commercial, and industrial structures to verify safety, workmanship, and compliance with plumbing codes, approved plans, and specifications through rough-in, underground, and final inspections.
- • Inspect water supply, drain, waste, vent, and storm drainage systems for quality, safety, and code compliance during and after construction.
- • Perform rough-in, underground, and final plumbing inspections on new builds, alterations, and repairs.
- • Review and interpret plumbing plans, riser diagrams, isometrics, and specifications for compliance with codes and ordinances.
- • Verify pipe materials, sizing, supports, slopes, traps, vents, and cleanout locations meet approved plans and code.
- • Witness and document pressure, leak, and hydrostatic tests on potable water and DWV systems.
- • Inspect installation of fixtures, appliances, water heaters, and pumps for required valves, clearances, and safety devices.
- • Confirm backflow prevention, cross-connection control, and thermal expansion protection are properly installed and tested.
- • Inspect grease interceptors, oil-water separators, and special waste systems for proper sizing, venting, and access.
- • Check trenching, bedding, pipe burial depth, and protection of underground piping.
- • Verify fixture counts, accessibility clearances, and water conservation requirements per applicable codes.
- • Maintain daily inspection logs, photographs, correction notices, and compliance reports.
- • Issue and track plumbing permits, approvals, stop-work orders, and certificates of compliance or occupancy for plumbing systems.
- • Use meters and test equipment, such as manometers, pressure gauges, dye or smoke testers, and inspection cameras.
- • Monitor job sites for safe work practices and adherence to codes and approved methods for plumbing work.
- • Confer with contractors, designers, and property owners to explain regulations and recommend remedial actions.
- • Approve compliant plumbing plans and installations; cite violations and schedule re-inspections when needed.
- • Train, mentor, or supervise junior plumbing inspectors and coordinate with other trade inspectors.
- • Investigate complaints, leaks, cross-connection incidents, or sewer backups and take enforcement action.
- • Verify separation of sanitary and storm systems and proper installation of sump pumps, ejectors, and backwater valves.
