Description
Teach hands-on skilled trades courses—such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, or automotive—to postsecondary students preparing for entry-level employment and industry certifications. Deliver shop and lab instruction, demonstrations, and work-based learning that meet safety and industry standards in community colleges, technical institutes, and private vocational schools.
  • • Enforce shop safety and supervise use of hand, power, and test equipment.
  • • Evaluate labs and projects; document progress and provide feedback.
  • • Teach through demonstrations, lectures, and simulations using drawings and multimedia.
  • • Administer written and performance assessments aligned to industry standards.
  • • Maintain grades, attendance, skills checklists, and training records.
  • • Supervise fabrication, installation, troubleshooting, and field experiences.

  • • Select and stage materials, tools, PPE, and consumables for labs.
  • • Advise on course pathways, apprenticeships, and job placement.
  • • Pursue professional development on current codes, tools, and technologies.
  • • Serve on program committees for budgeting, accreditation, and curriculum review.
  • • Review applications and conduct orientations or skills placement.
  • • Arrange guest demonstrations, employer talks, and industry site visits.
  • • Maintain, calibrate, and repair shop equipment; manage inventory.
