Description
Teach and supervise postsecondary healthcare students in clinical settings, providing hands-on instruction in patient care skills and procedures for certificate or associate-level programs. Instruction occurs in hospitals, clinics, and simulation labs affiliated with schools of nursing or allied health.
- • Supervise and monitor students' use of clinical equipment and adherence to safety and infection-control protocols.
- • Observe and evaluate students' clinical performance and documentation; provide feedback and improvement plans.
- • Lead pre- and post-clinical conferences, demonstrations, and case discussions using simulations and visual aids.
- • Administer skills check-offs, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), and written tests to assess competency.
- • Prepare and maintain clinical records, including grades, attendance, competencies, hours, and patient-care logs.
- • Supervise clinical rotations, simulation labs, community health experiences, and interprofessional activities.
- • Assess learners' training needs and readiness for patient assignments.
- • Provide individualized coaching and remedial instruction at the bedside and in skills labs.
- • Conduct in-service training to teach and demonstrate procedures, EHR workflows, and evidence-based practices.
- • Collaborate on clinical curricula and plan rotation activities and instructional methods.
- • Create clinical objectives, schedules, and performance benchmarks aligned with program outcomes.
- • Integrate classroom theory with clinical practice to build comprehensive patient-care skills.
- • Develop teaching materials such as simulation scenarios, skills checklists, and e-learning modules.
- • Coordinate clinical sites and assemble supplies, PPE, and equipment for labs and simulations.
- • Advise students on clinical placement, licensure preparation, and career pathways.
- • Participate in faculty development and clinical partner meetings; integrate current standards and guidelines.
- • Serve on committees for curriculum, accreditation, quality improvement, and resource planning.
- • Review clinical eligibility documents and onboarding requirements; follow up to obtain required information.
- • Arrange guest lectures, grand rounds, or specialty demonstrations with practicing clinicians.
- • Maintain, calibrate, and coordinate repair of simulation manikins, task trainers, and clinical teaching tools.
