  • • Build partnerships with agencies, research institutions, fisheries managers, and coastal communities to coordinate marine resource management and share findings.
  • • Use statistical software, GIS, and modeling tools to store, process, and analyze marine data.
  • • Collect and analyze data on marine species and their interactions with oceanographic conditions.
  • • Study marine flora and fauna and how temperature, currents, acidity, noise, contaminants, or radioactivity affect them.
  • • Present results to regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and the public.
  • • Identify and classify marine species and study their anatomy, behavior, ecology, physiology, nutrition, reproduction, and distribution.
  • • Represent the organization at marine science conferences and technical meetings.
  • • Plan and administer marine research programs for government, academia, NGOs, or industry.
  • • Assess environmental effects of coastal development, shipping, fishing, aquaculture, and offshore energy, and recommend mitigation and conservation measures.
  • • Measure salinity, temperature, pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, and light to relate conditions to marine life.
  • • Teach, mentor, and supervise students and interns in marine science projects.
  • • Supervise field teams, lab technicians, and collaborating scientists.
  • • Investigate fundamental biological processes in marine organisms across life stages.
  • • Monitor and model marine populations and advise on fisheries and wildlife management.
  • • Prepare scopes of work, permits, and requests for proposals for marine studies.
  • • Develop plans for sustainable use of marine resources and protected area management.
  • • Design and deploy methods and gear for collecting representative marine samples, including trawls, grabs, cores, ROVs, and eDNA.
  • • Assess and manage risks from invasive species, harmful algal blooms, and marine diseases.
  • • Prepare technical reports and environmental impact assessments and communicate findings to industry, regulators, and the public.
