Description
Diagnose complex automotive faults by analyzing data and testing systems; perform programming and calibrations, develop repair plans, and verify repairs through targeted testing and road tests.
  • • Test drive vehicles to reproduce concerns and gather diagnostic data.
  • • Connect scan tools to retrieve DTCs, freeze-frame, and live data.
  • • Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, and test lights to analyze electrical circuits.
  • • Perform CAN/LIN network diagnostics and identify communication faults.
  • • Conduct pinpoint tests following OEM flowcharts and service information.
  • • Research technical service bulletins, wiring diagrams, and repair histories.
  • • Perform compression, leak-down, and cylinder balance tests.
  • • Measure fuel pressure, volume, and injector performance.
  • • Diagnose ignition and misfire issues using waveform and data analysis.
  • • Perform EVAP and emissions system diagnostics with smoke machines and monitors.
  • • Evaluate charging and starting systems, including parasitic draw testing.
  • • Inspect harnesses, connectors, grounds, and sensors for damage or corrosion.
  • • Test and verify operation of engine management sensors and actuators.
  • • Diagnose ABS, traction, and stability control faults.
  • • Evaluate HVAC control and blend door operation using scan data and tests.
  • • Diagnose infotainment, body control, and comfort system concerns.
  • • Perform module programming, coding, and software updates as required.
  • • Calibrate ADAS components and steering angle sensors after service.
  • • Initialize and relearn systems such as TPMS, throttle, and crankshaft position.
  • • Provide clear repair plans and parts/labor estimates based on findings.
  • • Communicate diagnostic results and recommendations to service advisors and customers.
  • • Document test procedures, measurements, and root-cause conclusions on work orders.
  • • Verify completed repairs meet OEM specifications through targeted retesting.
  • • Support technicians during complex diagnostics and provide guidance.
  • • Maintain and update diagnostic equipment, software, and subscriptions.
  • • Follow safety procedures for high-voltage, fuel, and airbag systems.
  • • Diagnose drivability, performance, and NVH concerns.
  • • Conduct quality-control inspections prior to vehicle delivery.
  • • Plan work sequences to maximize accuracy and efficiency.
  • • Keep work area and tools clean and organized.
  • • Assess hybrid and EV systems, including high-voltage battery health and insulation resistance.
