Description
Diagnose, maintain, and repair vehicles as an Automotive Technician (Auto Tech), using diagnostic tools to restore performance and safety to OEM specifications.
- • Test-drive vehicles and use scan tools, infrared analyzers, and gauges to diagnose systems.
- • Inspect vehicles for damage or faults and document findings.
- • Test and adjust repaired systems to meet OEM specs.
- • Service and repair brake systems (reline, replace, adjust).
- • Prepare accurate parts and labor repair estimates.
- • Review work orders and clarify tasks with service advisors or supervisors.
- • Diagnose fuel, ignition, and emissions systems with electronic test equipment.
- • Communicate with customers about concerns, repairs, and future maintenance.
- • Perform front-end alignment.
- • Test and verify operation of electronic control modules and components.
- • Disassemble, repair, and rebuild assemblies (powertrain, steering, linkages).
- • Perform scheduled maintenance (oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups).
- • Follow inspection checklists for belts, hoses, steering, ignition, brakes, fuel, and wheel bearings.
- • Plan repairs using service information, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- • Keep work bays, tools, and equipment clean and organized.
- • Align wheels, axles, frames, torsion bars, and steering mechanisms with alignment and balancing equipment.
- • Tune engines for proper performance and efficiency.
- • Repair, replace, or adjust fuel injectors, carburetor parts, and fuel filters.
- • Service A/C, heating, cooling, and electrical systems.
- • Disassemble components and measure wear with micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- • Replace spark plugs, filters, and 12-volt batteries in hybrid vehicles.
- • Overhaul or replace carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.
- • Repair or replace internal engine parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings.
- • Rewire ignition, lighting, and instrument circuits.
- • Install, adjust, or repair power window, seat, and convertible-top lift mechanisms.
- • Rebuild major engine parts, including crankshafts and cylinder blocks.
- • Visually inspect CNG fuel systems for cracks, abrasion, loose brackets, or other defects.
- • Diagnose and repair FFV engine management systems and sensors for timing, fuel rate, alcohol concentration, or air-fuel ratio faults.
- • Repair or rebuild manual and automatic transmissions.
- • Retrofit fuel systems with approved aftermarket devices to improve combustion and fuel economy.
