Audiologists
Description
Assess functional hearing and communication needs and deliver aural rehabilitation for people with hearing loss, tinnitus, or related conditions. Provide auditory training, speechreading, counseling, and guidance on hearing aids and assistive technologies. Collaborate with audiologists and other professionals, and contribute to education, outreach, and applied research.
  • • Conduct aural rehabilitation assessments to identify communication goals and functional listening needs.
  • • Provide individualized auditory training, speechreading, and listening strategies.
  • • Counsel patients and families on adjustment to hearing loss and self-advocacy.
  • • Deliver tinnitus and hyperacusis education and sound therapy interventions.
  • • Train patients to use and troubleshoot hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices; coordinate repairs as needed.
  • • Recommend hearing assistive technologies, such as remote microphones, captioning, and alerting systems.
  • • Lead group aural rehabilitation classes and family communication workshops.
  • • Collaborate with audiologists, speech-language pathologists, physicians, educators, and employers.
  • • Provide orientation and ongoing therapy for implant and bone-anchored device users with implant teams.
  • • Administer functional outcome measures to track progress and refine care plans.
  • • Develop individualized therapy plans with measurable objectives and outcomes.
  • • Educate teachers and employers on accommodations and environmental modifications.
  • • Advocate for communication access solutions, including hearing loops and captioning.
  • • Provide public education and outreach on hearing health and communication strategies.
  • • Deliver hearing therapy and follow-up via telepractice platforms when appropriate.
  • • Participate in continuing education, supervision, and training to stay current.
  • • Contribute to quality improvement or applied research on aural rehabilitation methods.
  • • Refer patients for diagnostic audiology, medical evaluation, or mental health services when indicated.
  • • Maintain accurate records, progress notes, and reports for all services provided.
  • • Perform administrative tasks, including scheduling, program development, and community relations.
