Description
Evaluate hearing and communication needs; select, fit, and dispense hearing aids and assistive technologies. Provide counseling, aural rehabilitation, verification and follow-up care; perform ear care and device repairs; coordinate referrals; and manage records, warranties, insurance, and practice operations.
  • • Administer diagnostic hearing evaluations using specialized instruments.
  • • Examine and clean ear canals.
  • • Take ear impressions and order custom earmolds and devices.
  • • Recommend hearing aids and assistive listening devices based on needs and lifestyle.
  • • Fit, program, and dispense hearing aids, using real-ear verification and outcome measures.
  • • Counsel patients and families on device use, communication strategies, and realistic expectations.
  • • Provide aural rehabilitation and auditory training as needed.
  • • Perform hearing aid checks, troubleshooting, and in-office repairs; manage warranties and manufacturer services.
  • • Program and fine-tune devices with software and datalogging; pair accessories and apps.
  • • Educate patients on care, maintenance, and battery or charging procedures.
  • • Monitor progress and schedule follow-ups and periodic re-evaluations.
  • • Maintain complete records for evaluations, fittings, and follow-up care.
  • • Manage inventory, ordering, returns, and loaner devices.
  • • Verify insurance benefits, obtain authorizations, and process billing for devices and services.
  • • Develop marketing, community outreach, and referral relationships for the dispensing practice.
  • • Coordinate referrals to physicians or cochlear implant centers when indicated.
  • • Conduct hearing screenings in clinics, workplaces, or community settings.
  • • Advise patients on workplace, school, or public accommodations and assistive technology.
  • • Ensure compliance with state dispensing regulations, documentation, and privacy standards.
  • • Provide teleaudiology consultations and remote device adjustments when appropriate.
  • • Train and supervise support staff or students in dispensing procedures.
