Description
Assess and support students with hearing and related disorders in school settings. Conduct screenings and evaluations, manage hearing assistive technology, optimize classroom listening environments, and train staff, students, and families. Collaborate on IEP/504 plans and coordinate services with clinical providers to ensure access to instruction.
- • Develop and lead district-wide hearing screening and referral programs.
- • Administer school-based hearing assessments and interpret educational impact.
- • Perform otoscopy and hearing checks; troubleshoot devices and refer for medical care when needed.
- • Fit, integrate, and maintain hearing assistive technology (FM/DM/remote microphone and soundfield systems).
- • Troubleshoot hearing aids and cochlear implant accessories; coordinate with clinical providers for programming.
- • Recommend accommodations and services for IEPs and 504 plans.
- • Train students, families, and school staff in device use, care, and communication strategies.
- • Counsel students and caregivers on hearing loss, self-advocacy, and classroom communication.
- • Advise teachers on classroom acoustics, seating, and instructional supports.
- • Measure classroom noise and reverberation; recommend acoustic modifications.
- • Collaborate with SLPs, teachers of the deaf, nurses, psychologists, and administrators on service plans.
- • Provide or coordinate auditory training and rehabilitation to support academic goals.
- • Monitor student progress and device usage data; adjust supports accordingly.
- • Maintain compliant documentation, eligibility reports, and progress notes.
- • Manage inventory, repairs, and loaner pools for hearing assistive technology.
- • Provide professional development for educators on hearing health and access technology.
- • Coordinate accessibility for assessments and school events (e.g., remote mics, captioning, interpreters).
- • Implement hearing conservation education and noise-risk programs for students and staff.
- • Engage families and the community with information on hearing and communication in education.
- • Refer students to medical, clinical audiology, or additional educational services as needed.
- • Participate in district, state, and professional training to remain current with technology and best practices.
- • Contribute to program evaluation or research on outcomes for students with hearing loss.
