Description
Inspect fixed and mobile tanks—such as storage tanks, tank cars, and tanker trucks—for structural integrity, regulatory compliance, and safe loading, transport, and handling of liquids and gases.
  • • Prepare and submit detailed inspection reports and corrective action recommendations.
  • • Inspect internal and external tank surfaces, welds, shells, and heads for corrosion, cracks, and deformation.
  • • Examine valves, fittings, manways, gaskets, vents, and pressure-relief devices for proper condition and operation.
  • • Verify tanks are cleaned, purged, and gas-freed before entry or maintenance.
  • • Conduct leak tests and verify integrity of primary and secondary containment.
  • • Perform wall-thickness measurements and corrosion mapping using UT or other NDT methods.
  • • Witness or perform hydrostatic or pneumatic pressure tests within safety and code limits.
  • • Assess lining and coating condition and compatibility with stored or transported materials.
  • • Confirm loading limits, outage/ullage, and allowable pressure and temperature per specifications and regulations.
  • • Observe loading and unloading to verify grounding/bonding, venting, and procedural compliance.
  • • Verify hazardous materials placards, markings, and shipping papers match contents.
  • • Monitor and record tank pressure, temperature, and vapor space conditions as required.
  • • Identify violations, issue notices, and recommend or track remedial actions or out-of-service tags.
  • • Advise crews on safe handling of flammable, corrosive, toxic, or pressurized cargoes.
  • • Ensure securement of tank cars and trailers, chocks, closures, and seals before transport.
  • • Check overfill protection, level gauges, alarms, vents, and dike/sump capacities on fixed tanks.
  • • Maintain inspection records, photographs, thickness data, and certification documentation.
  • • Calculate allowable fill volumes and outage based on capacity, temperature, and product expansion.
