Description
Operate a multi-line switchboard to answer, route, and connect internal and external calls. Provide directory assistance, special dialing or billing support, paging, and emergency call handling, including accessibility assistance for callers who need help.
  • • Answer and route calls via the multi-line switchboard to people, departments, or outside numbers.
  • • Use internal and external directories to provide numbers and telephone information.
  • • Confirm alternate spellings, departments, extensions, or locations when details are incomplete.
  • • Observe signal lights and operate keys or buttons to make, hold, or transfer connections.
  • • Set up local, long-distance, person-to-person, conference, and emergency calls.
  • • Provide special assistance to callers unable to dial or in emergency situations.
  • • Handle special billing requests, credits, or third-party charges as applicable.
  • • Monitor automated attendants or IVR systems and assist callers when needed.
  • • Operate paging and notification systems to reach recipients of incoming calls.
  • • Provide TTY or relay support for users who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • • Interrupt busy lines when emergencies warrant.
  • • Update and maintain directory listings and speed-dial groups.
  • • Keep records of calls handled and related toll charges or account codes.
  • • Perform clerical duties such as typing, proofreading, and sorting mail.
