Description
Serve as an Operator (Op) handling directory assistance, call routing, and special billing. Assist with emergency and relay calls, support callers who need dialing help, and keep accurate call and charge records.
  • • Update and maintain directory listings.
  • • Answer caller requests using alphabetical, geographical, and online directories.
  • • Verify alternate spellings, locations, or listing formats when details are incomplete.
  • • Provide special assistance for callers unable to dial and during emergencies.
  • • Monitor switchboards or console indicators and initiate or complete call connections.
  • • Operate operator services systems to complete local, long-distance, mobile, person-to-person, payphone, and emergency calls.
  • • Process special billing requests, including third-party, collect, and credit adjustments.
  • • Monitor automated collect-call systems and intervene when assistance is needed.
  • • Perform routine clerical tasks such as data entry, proofreading, and mail sorting.
  • • Interrupt busy lines when warranted for emergency calls.
  • • Provide relay services for deaf and hard-of-hearing users.
  • • Promote company products, services, and savings plans when appropriate.
  • • Operate paging or notification systems to alert recipients to incoming calls.
  • • Record calls handled and related toll charges.
