Assist special education teachers in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities across preschool through secondary settings. Provide instructional, behavioral, and personal care support under teacher and therapist direction to promote access, safety, and independence.
- • Assist students during bus loading and unloading, including wheelchairs, harnesses, and safe transfers.
- • Attend staff meetings and trainings on ESE procedures, IEPs, behavior supports, and crisis prevention.
- • Clean and sanitize classroom surfaces, learning tools, and adaptive equipment.
- • Provide personal care, including toileting, feeding, hygiene, diapering, and safe lifting/positioning per student plans.
- • Model and coach functional, communication, and daily living skills as directed.
- • Coordinate daily duties with the special education teacher and related service providers.
- • Distribute and organize adapted materials, visual supports, and manipulatives.
- • Proctor tests and assignments with IEP accommodations and modifications.
- • Enforce school and classroom rules using positive behavior supports.
- • Score student work and enter data toward IEP goals and objectives.
- • Instruct and monitor safe use of classroom, sensory, mobility, and therapy equipment.
- • Create, laminate, and maintain visual schedules, token boards, and communication supports.
- • Set up and support student use of computers, tablets, AAC, and other assistive technology.
- • Observe academic and behavioral performance and record data for progress monitoring.
- • Implement behavior intervention plans using approved de-escalation strategies; document interventions and outcomes.
- • Organize, label, and display materials and student work using accessible formats.
- • Supervise structured play, sensory breaks, and recreation to build skills and self-regulation.
- • Provide input for IEP or parent conferences at the teacher’s request.
- • Prepare and adapt instructional aids, graphic organizers, and modified texts.
- • Prepare lesson materials, visuals, and equipment for individualized and small-group instruction.
- • Deliver teacher-designed lessons to individuals or small groups in special and general education settings, using prompting and fading.
- • Follow student health plans and emergency protocols; monitor for medical needs and seek assistance from the nurse as required.
- • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, community sites, and on field trips.
- • Take attendance and document services, participation, and incidents as required.
- • Teach and reinforce social, communication, and self-regulation skills.
- • Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce targeted skills and generalize learning.
- • Maintain student files, data sheets, and duplicated materials while protecting confidentiality.
- • Use computers and instructional technology to supplement and differentiate lessons.
