Description
Assist preschool, elementary, middle, or secondary teachers with instructional duties while providing bilingual support. Work under a teacher's lead to implement programs and lessons and facilitate communication between English and the students' home language for students and families.
- • Provide real-time interpretation of classroom directions, discussions, and small-group work between English and the target language.
- • Translate classroom materials, homework, notices, and digital content as directed by the teacher.
- • Tutor multilingual learners individually or in small groups in both languages to reinforce lessons and vocabulary.
- • Pre-teach and review key academic vocabulary and concepts in the students' home language and English.
- • Support language development activities, including reading aloud, dialogues, and guided writing in both languages.
- • Discuss assigned duties with teachers to coordinate bilingual supports and pacing.
- • Prepare bilingual lesson materials, visuals, and bulletin boards; create dual-language word walls.
- • Distribute and collect materials, tests, and assignments; clarify instructions in both languages.
- • Grade assignments and quizzes per rubrics and record results; note language-related errors and progress.
- • Observe and document students' academic and language acquisition progress and behaviors.
- • Assist with language assessments and accommodations as directed.
- • Use computers, learning platforms, and language-learning software; help students navigate bilingual resources.
- • Operate and maintain audio-visual and translation equipment or headsets.
- • Organize, label, and file materials in both languages; type, copy, and laminate bilingual resources.
- • Enforce school policies and classroom routines consistently and respectfully.
- • Teach and model social and cross-cultural communication skills.
- • Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, playgrounds, gyms, buses, and on field trips.
- • Assist in bus loading and unloading.
- • Organize and supervise games and activities that encourage inclusive, multilingual interaction.
- • Maintain classroom cleanliness and orderly learning centers.
- • Attend staff meetings and participate in English-learner or family-engagement events as assigned.
- • Participate in teacher-parent conferences by interpreting and sharing classroom information within guidelines.
- • Collect and receipt money for school activities, when needed.
- • Plan and prepare simple demonstrations or centers; model tasks with bilingual prompts.
- • Requisition and restock supplies; maintain inventories of bilingual materials.
- • Instruct and monitor safe use of equipment and materials.
- • Take attendance and maintain accurate records.
- • Maintain computers and tablets; troubleshoot basic hardware or software issues.
