Description
Provide school-based counseling, case management, and prevention services to K-12 students experiencing substance use, behavioral, or related challenges. Deliver individual and group counseling; coordinate crisis response, screening, referral, and reentry support; and collaborate with families, school staff, and community providers to promote student safety, wellness, and success.
- • Counsel students individually and in groups to address substance use, behavioral issues, and life adjustments.
- • Maintain confidential student records, progress notes, and required reports per FERPA and district policy.
- • Develop student support plans based on assessments, history, and school context.
- • Monitor progress toward measurable goals and adjust interventions as needed.
- • Conduct screenings and interviews; review records; consult with teachers, nurses, and parents to assess needs.
- • Provide crisis intervention and safety planning; advocate for students during emergencies.
- • Educate students and families on substance use, vaping, gambling, and mental health; make appropriate referrals.
- • Coordinate care with school psychologists, social workers, nurses, and external providers.
- • Participate in professional development and supervision to maintain knowledge and credentials.
- • Plan and implement follow-up and reentry/aftercare for students returning from hospitalization or treatment.
- • Conduct Student Assistance Program orientations for students and families.
- • Counsel and coach families to support student recovery and behavior change.
- • Participate in Student Assistance Team/MTSS meetings and case conferences.
- • Liaise among students, families, school staff, and healthcare providers.
- • Coordinate with juvenile courts, probation, child welfare, and community agencies as needed.
- • Communicate with parents/guardians about plans and progress consistent with consent and confidentiality laws.
- • Train teachers and staff on early identification, referral procedures, and classroom strategies.
- • Track outcomes and indicators (e.g., attendance, behavior) to evaluate program effectiveness.
- • Design, deliver, and evaluate schoolwide prevention and health promotion initiatives.
- • Provide guidance and oversight to interns or support staff assigned to the program.
- • Conduct structured risk and substance use screenings with validated tools (e.g., SBIRT) and document findings.
- • Ensure compliance with mandated reporting requirements and school policies.
- • Support 504/IEP teams with recommendations and accommodations related to substance use and behavior.
