Description
Finalize mixed audio for release by applying EQ, dynamics, sequencing, loudness control, and metadata, delivering consistent, translation-ready masters that meet streaming, broadcast, and physical format specifications.
- • Consult with artists, producers, and mixers to define mastering objectives, references, and delivery specifications.
- • Prepare sessions by organizing mixes or stems, verifying file integrity, and confirming sample rate and bit depth.
- • Evaluate mixes and provide upstream mix feedback when fixes are best made before mastering.
- • Shape tonal balance and dynamics using EQ, compression, limiting, and saturation to achieve consistent loudness and translation across playback systems.
- • Perform corrective edits, fades, and restoration (click/pop removal, noise reduction, de-essing) as needed.
- • Sequence tracks, set spacing and transitions, and match levels for cohesive albums or EPs.
- • Embed and verify metadata (ISRC, UPC/EAN, CD-Text) and author PQ codes and DDP images for replication.
- • Render and print final masters and reference versions to required formats (WAV/BWF, high-res, AAC/MP3, DDP), applying dithering and sample-rate conversion as needed.
- • Create production masters and alternates for specific mediums and platforms (streaming, broadcast, vinyl, radio edit, instrumental).
- • Ensure compliance with platform and broadcast loudness and true peak standards; check inter-sample peaks and headroom.
- • Calibrate and maintain the monitoring chain, converters, and outboard processors; manage room alignment and speaker placement.
- • Maintain detailed session notes, PQ sheets, revision logs, and version control; manage client approvals.
- • Archive source files, sessions, and deliverables; manage backups and recalls per studio policy.
- • Troubleshoot and report software and hardware issues; coordinate maintenance or repairs.
