Solar PV Systems Engineer (Solar Photovoltaic Systems Engineer)

Solar Energy Systems Engineers
Description
Perform site-specific engineering analysis and evaluation of photovoltaic (PV) projects for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Design grid-tied and hybrid PV systems for new and existing facilities, applying knowledge of electrical power systems, structural constraints, solar resource, PV technology, and applicable codes and standards.
  • • Test or evaluate photovoltaic (PV) modules, inverters, and balance-of-system components.
  • • Review equipment and system specifications and recommend design or manufacturing changes to meet PV performance and reliability goals.
  • • Perform electrical, structural, shading, and cost optimization analyses for PV systems.
  • • Develop standard operating procedures and quality and safety standards for PV installation and commissioning.
  • • Design stringing, array layouts, racking, and balance-of-system for rooftop and ground-mount PV.
  • • Provide technical direction and support to field teams during installation, start-up, testing, commissioning, and performance verification.
  • • Perform computer simulations of PV energy production and system performance to optimize yield and losses.
  • • Develop design specifications and functional requirements for residential, commercial, and industrial PV systems and components.
  • • Create plans for PV system development, monitoring, and performance evaluation activities.
  • • Produce electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and connection diagrams for PV systems using CAD, ensuring NEC and local code compliance.
  • • Create preconstruction, installation, and commissioning checklists for review and inspection of PV projects.
  • • Design or coordinate the design of grid-tied PV systems, including module selection, inverters, wiring, protection, and energy storage integration.
  • • Conduct engineering site audits to collect structural, electrical, shading, and utility interconnection data for PV system design.
