Description
Design, measure, fit, and adapt prosthetic limbs and devices for individuals with limb loss or limb difference, ensuring optimal function, comfort, and mobility.
- • Examine, interview, and measure patients to determine prosthetic needs and factors affecting fit.
- • Fit, align, test, and evaluate prosthetic devices, making adjustments for comfort, function, and gait.
- • Instruct patients in the use, care, and maintenance of prostheses.
- • Design prosthetic devices based on physician prescriptions, assessments, and measurements.
- • Maintain comprehensive patient records and documentation.
- • Make and modify plaster casts or digital scans of residual limbs to guide socket fabrication.
- • Select prosthetic components and materials based on design, activity level, and patient goals.
- • Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and therapists to develop prosthetic prescriptions and care plans.
- • Repair, rebuild, and modify prosthetic devices as needed.
- • Fabricate prosthetic sockets and devices, or supervise technicians during fabrication.
- • Train and supervise prosthetic assistants and technicians.
- • Update skills and knowledge by attending continuing education, conferences, and seminars.
- • Educate healthcare workers about prosthetic options, indications, and outcomes.
- • Research new methods, materials, and technologies for prosthetic design and use.
