Description
Build, modify, and repair orthotic and prosthetic devices from clinician prescriptions and specifications. Create models from casts or digital scans, select materials and components, operate lab equipment, assist with fittings and adjustments, and maintain documentation, inventory, and lab safety.
- • Review prescriptions, measurements, scans, and work orders to plan fabrication.
- • Create and modify positive models from plaster casts or CAD/CAM files.
- • Thermoform plastics and laminate sockets or shells using resins and composites.
- • Cut, shape, and finish components with hand and power tools and alignment jigs.
- • Assemble devices and install components, hardware, and liners per specifications.
- • Perform bench alignment and technical adjustments; assist clinicians during fittings.
- • Repair, rebuild, and modify orthoses and prostheses returned for service.
- • Select and prepare materials and components appropriate to device design.
- • Document fabrication steps, materials, serial numbers, and device settings in records.
- • Maintain lab equipment, cleanliness, and safety; follow infection control and OSHA policies.
- • Manage inventory; receive, track, and order supplies and components.
- • Operate CAD/CAM systems, scanners, and 3D printers as applicable.
- • Collaborate with clinicians to clarify specifications and resolve fabrication issues.
- • Provide basic device care and maintenance instructions to patients as directed.
- • Train and mentor junior technicians or assistants; support SOPs and quality improvement.
