Description
Collect and analyze environmental health data from community and workplace settings to support public and environmental health specialists. Implement, monitor, and evaluate programs and controls to reduce chemical, biological, and physical hazards affecting air, water, food, housing, and sanitation.
- • Maintain all required environmental health records and documentation.
- • Prepare, calibrate, and operate equipment to collect or analyze air, water, soil, surface, or noise samples.
- • Inspect facilities for environmental health hazards, including sanitation, vector harborage, mold, excessive noise, and chemical or biological exposures.

- • Plan and participate in emergency preparedness drills for hazardous materials, water contamination, or disease outbreaks.
- • Maintain logbooks and digital databases of inspections, samples, chain of custody, and daily activities.
- • Support hazardous materials response through screening, perimeter air monitoring, or decontamination oversight.
- • Collaborate with schools, local agencies, and community groups to develop or deliver environmental health programs.
- • Assess environmental risks at brownfield or redevelopment sites and support remediation oversight.
- • Evaluate green building practices and materials for impacts on indoor environmental quality and occupant health.
- • Test indoor air quality and HVAC performance to verify ventilation rates and contaminant control.
- • Perform vector surveillance and implement abatement measures.
- • Train facility staff, food handlers, or workers in sanitation, hygiene, and exposure control procedures.
- • Verify availability and proper use of safety and sanitation equipment, such as backflow preventers, spill kits, or respirators.
- • Investigate complaints about odors, noise, smoke, or illegal dumping and determine corrective actions.
- • Recommend corrective measures based on environmental sampling and risk assessments.
- • Conduct environmental health investigations to link illnesses to exposures and document findings.
- • Provide technical consultation to businesses and agencies on environmental health compliance and best practices.
