Description
Perform complex immunohematology testing, compatibility workups, and blood component management to ensure safe transfusion therapy; may train or supervise staff.
- • Perform ABO/Rh typing, antibody screens, and serologic or electronic crossmatches for compatibility.
- • Analyze serologic findings and resolve ABO/Rh discrepancies, positive DATs, and complex antibody patterns.
- • Identify and titrate unexpected antibodies; perform antigen typing or phenotyping on patient and donor samples.
- • Conduct compatibility testing and select appropriate products for routine and special transfusion needs.
- • Process, label, and prepare blood components, including irradiated, washed, or volume-reduced units.
- • Receive, store, monitor, and rotate blood products to maintain inventory and traceability.
- • Issue and document blood components according to policies, regulations, and patient requirements.
- • Investigate suspected transfusion reactions and document, report, and communicate findings.
- • Operate, calibrate, and maintain blood bank analyzers, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and temperature monitors.
- • Perform daily quality control, reagent QC, and equipment checks; troubleshoot out-of-range results.
- • Prepare, validate, and manage antisera, reagents, and cells; maintain lot and QC records.
- • Enter, verify, and release results and product data in the LIS or blood bank software.
- • Provide technical guidance to physicians and nurses on test results and product selection.
- • Train, assess, and supervise blood bank staff, students, or technicians as assigned.
- • Develop, standardize, and validate procedures; ensure compliance with AABB, CAP, CLIA, and FDA requirements.
