Description
Directly supervise grounds crews performing maintenance and improvement of campus, park, or facility landscapes. Plan, schedule, and inspect work; enforce safety and quality standards; coordinate equipment, materials, and irrigation; and maintain records and budgets. Support pest management and seasonal operations such as snow and storm response.
- • Establish and enforce operating procedures and safety standards for grounds crews.
- • Inspect grounds and completed work for quality and standards compliance.
- • Direct crews performing mowing, trimming, pruning, planting, mulching, fertilizing, and watering.
- • Schedule and prioritize work based on weather, events, and resource availability.
- • Monitor progress to ensure instructions are followed and deadlines met.
- • Train staff in horticultural practices, equipment operation, and turf care.
- • Provide hands-on assistance as needed to meet deadlines or resolve issues.
- • Manage inventory and condition of tools, equipment, and materials.
- • Coordinate with facilities, athletics, and other departments to align work.
- • Perform personnel activities, including hiring, onboarding, evaluations, and discipline.
- • Oversee and, when required, apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in compliance with regulations.
- • Review work orders and plans to determine labor, equipment, and material needs.
- • Maintain records of work activities, inspections, incidents, and personnel.
- • Order corrective work and recommend process or procedural improvements.
- • Identify plant pests, diseases, or irrigation issues and implement treatments or repairs.
- • Investigate and resolve service requests or complaints related to grounds.
- • Direct or assist with maintenance and minor repair of grounds equipment.
- • Manage seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, snow and ice control, and storm cleanup.
- • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot irrigation systems; adjust schedules and coverage.
- • Prepare cost estimates and track project budgets when required.
- • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and pesticide regulations and training requirements.
- • Support installation, maintenance, or repair of hardscapes, sidewalks, and curbs.
- • Conduct site tours to assess soil, turf, and plant health and plan improvements.
- • Recommend changes in equipment, staffing, or methods to increase crew efficiency.
