Directly supervise and coordinate all golf course maintenance to deliver safe, high-quality playing conditions. Oversee crews, schedules, budgets, equipment, irrigation, and agronomic programs; inspect course conditions; manage vendors and regulatory compliance; and prepare estimates and respond to member and tournament needs.
- • Establish and enforce course maintenance standards, SOPs, and safety practices.
- • Inspect greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers daily for quality and playability.
- • Direct crews in mowing, rolling, bunker raking, edging, trimming, and course setup.
- • Schedule crew assignments around tee sheets, tournaments, equipment, and weather.
- • Manage irrigation scheduling, system maintenance, hand-watering, and moisture monitoring.
- • Plant, cultivate, and maintain turf, trees, ornamentals, and native areas.
- • Monitor projects to ensure instructions, deadlines, and standards are met.
- • Train staff in equipment operation, mowing techniques, spraying, and course setup.
- • Assist crews as needed to meet deadlines or event standards.
- • Inventory and procure seed, sod, sand, fertilizers, pesticides, fuel, and tools.
- • Coordinate with golf professionals and clubhouse managers on schedules and events.
- • Hire, evaluate, coach, and, when needed, discipline maintenance staff.
- • Direct or perform calibrated application of fertilizers, pesticides, and growth regulators.
- • Review vendor proposals, service contracts, and equipment leases for maintenance needs.
- • Maintain required records for chemical use, water consumption, budgets, and personnel.
- • Order corrective work and adjust procedures to resolve turf or safety problems.
- • Diagnose turf diseases, weeds, and pests and prescribe appropriate treatments.
- • Investigate staff or golfer complaints and implement corrective responses.
- • Oversee maintenance and repair of equipment and coordinate with the equipment manager.
- • Plan and supervise drainage, bunker renovation, cart path repair, and tee or green projects.
- • Process time sheets, authorize leave, and manage payroll-related administration.
- • Recommend equipment upgrades, cultural practices, and staffing changes to improve efficiency.
- • Collaborate with agronomists, architects, and contractors on maintenance or improvement plans.
- • Communicate course conditions, maintenance schedules, and disruptions to members and guests.
- • Prepare operating and capital budgets and cost estimates for projects.
- • Ensure compliance with environmental, water-use, and pesticide regulations.
- • Plan and execute aeration, topdressing, overseeding, and nutrient programs.
- • Coordinate winter preparations, covers, or snow and ice management as needed.
