Description
Investigate, monitor, and reduce healthcare-associated infection risks by developing, implementing, and evaluating infection prevention and control programs. Conduct surveillance, lead outbreak response, educate staff, and ensure compliance with public health and regulatory standards.
  • • Oversee infection prevention programs, including surveillance, data analysis, and performance improvement.
  • • Investigate healthcare-associated infections, MDROs, and transmission pathways; lead outbreak response.
  • • Plan and conduct infection risk assessments and evaluate prevention interventions.
  • • Develop, implement, and update infection control policies, procedures, and isolation protocols.
  • • Design and maintain surveillance systems and data collection tools; apply NHSN definitions and metrics.
  • • Audit practices (hand hygiene, device insertion/maintenance, cleaning) and report compliance trends.
  • • Advise clinicians and leaders on exposure management, post-exposure prophylaxis, and precaution strategies.
  • • Lead or supervise infection preventionists and support staff; coordinate with unit champions.
  • • Assess infection risks from devices, construction/renovation, water systems, and the environment; guide mitigation and ICRAs.
  • • Educate staff on standard and transmission-based precautions, PPE, aseptic technique, and sterilization/disinfection.
  • • Collaborate with laboratories on organism identification, susceptibility patterns, and alerts for significant pathogens.
  • • Monitor and report HAIs, outbreaks, and reportable conditions to NHSN, health departments, and internal committees.
  • • Communicate surveillance findings, dashboards, and recommendations to clinicians, executives, and frontline staff.
  • • Partner with pharmacy and physicians on antimicrobial stewardship and MDRO containment strategies.
  • • Ensure compliance with CDC, OSHA, CMS, and Joint Commission standards; prepare for regulatory surveys.
  • • Develop educational materials, patient/visitor guidance, and presentations; contribute to publications as needed.
