Description
Investigate and describe the determinants and distribution of disease, disability, and other health outcomes in populations; develop and evaluate methods for prevention and control.
  • • Oversee public health programs, including statistical analysis, surveillance, health care planning, and improvement initiatives.
  • • Investigate diseases and parasites to determine causes, risk factors, progression, and modes of transmission.
  • • Plan and direct epidemiologic studies on human or animal disease, prevention methods, and interventions.
  • • Plan, administer, and evaluate health standards and programs in collaboration with health departments, providers, and industry.
  • • Design, manage, and evaluate study protocols, questionnaires, sampling strategies, and analyses.
  • • Develop and apply epidemiologic methods, analyze data, and present findings.
  • • Consult with and advise clinicians, educators, researchers, and public health officials.
  • • Supervise professional, technical, and clerical staff.
  • • Identify and analyze public health issues, including foodborne and parasitic diseases, and inform policy and studies.
  • • Teach epidemiology principles and relevant procedures to clinicians, trainees, students, and technicians.
  • • Collaborate with laboratories to interpret sample data on exposures and pathogens.
  • • Monitor and report notifiable diseases to local and state health agencies.
  • • Communicate findings to health practitioners, policymakers, and the public.
  • • Educate healthcare workers, patients, and the public on disease transmission and prevention.
  • • Publish findings in professional journals.
  • • Write grant proposals to fund epidemiologic research.
