Plan, direct, and coordinate K–12 interscholastic athletic programs, operations, and compliance, overseeing coaches, events, facilities, budgets, and student-athlete welfare.
  • • Review and approve new athletic programs or sports, and submit proposals for district or board approval.
  • • Oversee athletic eligibility, rosters, participation, injury, and personnel records, and required reports.
  • • Confer with parents, coaches, and staff on athletic policies, team issues, sportsmanship, and student-athlete concerns.
  • • Prepare and manage athletics budgets; submit budget requests, grants, and funding proposals.
  • • Coordinate maintenance and scheduling of athletic facilities, fields, courts, and gyms.
  • • Advise student-athletes on academic eligibility, conduct, college recruiting, and wellness.
  • • Organize booster clubs, advisory committees, and volunteer groups to support athletic programs.
  • • Teach or supervise athletic leadership, conditioning, or physical education courses as assigned.
  • • Advocate for new or renovated athletic facilities and capital improvements.
  • • Develop coaching standards, training plans, and athlete development programs.
  • • Build partnerships with community organizations, sponsors, and colleges to support athletics and scholarships.
  • • Direct and coordinate activities of coaches, athletic trainers, game staff, and support personnel.
  • • Evaluate athletic programs and coaching methods for effectiveness, equity, and compliance with league and legal rules.
  • • Set program goals and establish athletic policies, handbooks, and procedures.
  • • Recruit, hire, onboard, schedule, and evaluate coaches and athletic staff.
  • • Enforce athletic codes of conduct, eligibility, and attendance requirements.
  • • Observe practices and competitions to standardize coaching techniques and safety protocols and provide feedback.
  • • Coordinate district-wide athletic initiatives, eligibility tracking, and sportsmanship and leadership programs.
  • • Ensure compliance with Title IX, health and safety regulations, concussion protocols, and facility security standards.
  • • Allocate funds for coaching stipends, equipment, uniforms, and travel, and authorize purchases.
  • • Produce athletic handbooks, event programs, and promotional content for teams and facilities.
  • • Recommend personnel actions for coaching assignments, renewals, and disciplinary matters.
  • • Collaborate with PE staff and coaches to align athletic mission, standards, and performance goals with academics.
  • • Analyze participation trends and community demographics to forecast sport offerings and staffing needs.
  • • Determine sport offerings and season schedules; plan staffing, tryouts, and facility needs.
  • • Plan and lead professional development for coaches on compliance, safety, and coaching best practices.
  • • Coordinate accommodations and support for student-athletes with disabilities and 504/IEP considerations in athletics.
  • • Liaise with athletic associations and regulatory bodies to stay current on rules and improve programs.
  • • Plan and oversee event logistics, including transportation, officials, game management, and concessions.
  • • Coordinate all interscholastic competitions, tournaments, and after-school athletic events.
  • • Mentor head coaches and emerging athletic leaders; support site administrators on athletics.
  • • Create athletic program improvement plans using performance, participation, academic, and safety data.
