Description
Support school meal programs by preparing and serving nutritious foods, maintaining food safety, and assisting with menu planning and compliance under the direction of a school nutrition manager or dietitian. Help implement USDA meal patterns, accommodate special diets, and promote healthy choices for students.
- • Prepare and serve school meals following standardized recipes, USDA meal patterns, and portion control.
- • Scale recipes and determine quantities based on forecasted student participation.
- • Assist with menu analysis for USDA school meal pattern compliance and test new items with students.
- • Support kitchen production and serving-line operations under the school nutrition manager or dietitian.
- • Help plan cycle menus and guide students in making healthy selections within cafeteria offerings.
- • Track inventory, usage, and waste; assist with cost control and ordering.
- • Maintain HACCP food safety practices, including temperature logs, allergen controls, and sanitation.
- • Operate POS/cashier systems; record reimbursable meals and a la carte sales accurately.
- • Complete meal counts and production records; collect student feedback for program improvement.
- • Coordinate and implement physician-ordered special diets and allergy accommodations with the nurse/dietitian.
- • Monitor students with special diet needs during service and report issues or concerns.
- • Participate in nutrition education, taste tests, and cafeteria promotions.
- • Attend staff and interdepartmental meetings to coordinate meal service and compliance requirements.
