Description
Support clinical nutrition care in hospitals or clinics under a registered dietitian's supervision. Screen patients, collect nutrition data, coordinate therapeutic menus and nourishments, provide basic nutrition education, and monitor and document intake to support individualized care plans.
  • • Perform nutrition risk screenings per protocol to identify patients needing RD assessment.
  • • Obtain and document diet histories, allergies, preferences, and cultural needs.
  • • Measure and record weights, anthropometrics, and relevant nutrition data in the EMR.
  • • Complete calorie counts; monitor oral and enteral intake and report issues to the RD.
  • • Coordinate patient menu selections to meet diet orders, textures, and restrictions.
  • • Prepare and deliver nourishments and supplements per physician or RD orders.
  • • Provide basic diet education using approved materials under RD direction.
  • • Assist RDs in estimating nutrient needs and developing care plans under protocols.
  • • Audit trays and meal accuracy; resolve tray errors and escalate concerns.
  • • Collaborate with nursing, providers, and food service; participate in care rounds as assigned.
  • • Support discharge planning with written diet instructions and referrals as directed.
  • • Collect data for quality improvement, audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • • Train or orient patient services staff on therapeutic diets, menu systems, and safe food handling.
