Description
Oversee and steward a museum’s collections and exhibitions, including acquisition, research, preservation, and interpretation. Lead instructional, research, and public service programs that advance the museum’s mission.
- • Develop and maintain the museum’s registration, cataloging, and collections records in a CMS.
- • Provide access to collection information for staff, scholars, and the public.
- • Inspect galleries, storage, and prep areas to address conservation, climate, security, and pest control needs.
- • Recruit, train, and supervise curatorial, collections, and support staff, interns, and volunteers.
- • Negotiate and authorize acquisitions, deaccessions, and loans in line with museum policies.
- • Plan and conduct original research on the collection and related topics.
- • Confer with leadership or the board on policies, budgets, and overall operations.
- • Attend meetings and community events to promote the museum and cultivate funding and partnerships.
- • Plan and coordinate programs, openings, and special events, including logistics and fee collection.
- • Write and review grant proposals, catalog texts, labels, reports, and publicity materials.
- • Examine and verify provenance, materials, history, condition, and value of objects and acquisitions.
- • Arrange insurance for loans and special exhibitions; recommend collection-wide coverage.
- • Establish specifications for reproductions and oversee their production or select commercial replicas.
- • Plan, design, and install exhibitions; oversee acquisition, storage, and display of collection materials.
- • Develop and deliver tours, workshops, and educational programs for diverse audiences.
