Description
Oversee and care for a museum or institution’s collections—artworks, artifacts, historic items, or scientific specimens—while leading related research, education, and public engagement.
  • • Develop and maintain registration, cataloging, and collections records in collection management systems.
  • • Provide access and information on holdings to staff, researchers, and the public.
  • • Inspect galleries and storage for environmental, security, and pest control; coordinate repairs.
  • • Train and supervise curatorial staff, technicians, interns, and volunteers.
  • • Negotiate and authorize acquisitions, deaccessions, exchanges, and loans.
  • • Plan and conduct research on collection areas.
  • • Advise leadership and boards on policies, budgets, and strategy for collections and exhibitions.
  • • Represent the institution to promote programs, build partnerships, and support fundraising.
  • • Plan and support collection-related programs and events, coordinating logistics and budgets.
  • • Write and review grants, catalog essays, reports, and public content.
  • • Research, examine, and test objects to authenticate provenance, materials, and value.
  • • Arrange insurance for loans and exhibitions; recommend collection-wide coverage.
  • • Specify and oversee production of reproductions and selection of licensed replicas.
  • • Plan and manage acquisition, storage, and exhibition, including themes, design, and installation.
  • • Develop and deliver tours, workshops, and educational sessions.
