Description
Administer and steward art collections for museums or galleries, overseeing acquisitions, research, exhibitions, and public programs; may teach, publish, and advance community engagement.
  • • Develop and maintain art collection registration, cataloging, and records in collection management systems.
  • • Provide curatorial information and interpretation to staff, scholars, media, and the public.
  • • Inspect galleries and storage to address conservation needs, climate, light, pest control, and security.
  • • Train and supervise curatorial, registrarial, preparatory, research, and volunteer staff.
  • • Negotiate and authorize acquisition, exchange, deaccession, or loan of artworks in line with policy and ethics.
  • • Plan and conduct art-historical and provenance research related to the collection and exhibitions.
  • • Collaborate with leadership and boards to shape policies, budgets, and strategic program priorities.
  • • Attend fairs, openings, and community events to promote the institution, cultivate donors, and build partnerships.
  • • Plan and manage exhibition schedules and event logistics, including openings and related programs.
  • • Write and edit labels, catalogs, grant proposals, scholarly articles, reports, and publicity materials.
  • • Study and evaluate potential acquisitions to confirm authenticity, condition, provenance, and value.
  • • Arrange insurance and loan agreements for artworks and exhibitions; recommend coverage updates.
  • • Set specifications for image rights and reproductions; oversee editions or select licensed images.
  • • Curate and oversee the acquisition, storage, and exhibition of artworks, including theme selection, design, and installation.
  • • Design and deliver tours, lectures, workshops, and educational programs about the collection and exhibitions.
