Description
Inspect facilities and operations to ensure compliance with environmental laws, permits, and standards; conduct site inspections and sampling; review records; document findings; and support enforcement and corrective actions.
  • • Issue warnings or notices of violation for environmental infractions and explain penalties.
  • • Review permits, monitoring reports, manifests, and records to assess compliance and liability.
  • • Advise facilities and contractors on environmental permits, standards, and reporting requirements.
  • • Prepare inspection reports, findings, and corrective action recommendations.
  • • Refer significant violations to state or federal environmental agencies and coordinate enforcement.
  • • Interview managers, EHS staff, and operators to clarify processes, emissions, and waste practices.
  • • Verify facilities maintain required environmental permits, registrations, and postings.
  • • Verify payment of required environmental program and permit fees.
  • • Conduct field sampling and on-site testing of air, water, soil, or waste streams.
  • • Inspect sites to confirm permit conditions are met and required notices are posted.
  • • Observe operations and pollution control equipment to evaluate compliance and operator competency.
  • • Draft correspondence communicating compliance status, required actions, and appeal procedures.
  • • Identify and prioritize issues requiring investigation, sampling, or follow-up inspections.
  • • Stay current on environmental laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • • Support internal or agency audits and respond to data and document requests.
  • • Verify environmental procedures, training, and EMS documentation are implemented and communicated.
