Description
Plan, direct, and coordinate an organization’s import and export compliance program. Ensure adherence to customs regulations, export controls, and sanctions through effective policies, licensing, screening, classification, and training.
- • Review marketing materials, public disclosures, and technical data releases for export control and sanctions risks.
- • Provide training on export controls (EAR/ITAR), sanctions (OFAC), customs requirements, and company procedures.
- • Report significant violations to authorities and manage voluntary self-disclosures when appropriate.
- • Support internal and external audits and government inquiries related to trade compliance.
- • Prepare management reports and dashboards on trade compliance performance, risks, and remediation status.
- • Monitor trade compliance controls and systems to ensure ongoing effectiveness.
- • Identify and prioritize trade compliance issues requiring investigation or escalation.
- • Publish and maintain trade compliance policies, SOPs, and work instructions.
- • Oversee required filings and reports, including EEI/AES submissions, license applications, and post-entry corrections.
- • Improve screening, classification, licensing, and customs broker management processes.
- • Conduct periodic self-audits of import entries, export transactions, and screening records.
- • Lead internal investigations of suspected export, sanctions, or customs violations.
- • Advise engineering and product teams on ECCN classification, encryption reviews, and technology control plans.
- • Conduct customs and export control audits to verify adherence to regulations and internal controls.
- • Direct programs for HTS/ECCN classification, origin determination, valuation, FTA eligibility, and denied party screening.
- • Validate screening, classification, and broker entry procedures to meet regulatory requirements.
- • Communicate emerging trade compliance issues and regulatory changes to stakeholders.
- • Ensure trade compliance technology (restricted party screening, classification, AES/EEI filing, recordkeeping) is implemented and effective.
- • Serve as a confidential point of contact for employees and partners to raise trade compliance questions or report potential violations.
- • Maintain required import/export records, including licenses, screenings, filings, and investigation documentation.
- • Consult with corporate counsel and outside trade counsel on complex customs, export control, and sanctions matters.
- • Partner with HR and management to apply consistent disciplinary actions for trade compliance violations.
- • Advise leadership and business units on the design and operation of the trade compliance program.
- • Update policies and procedures in response to changes in customs rules, export controls, sanctions, or trade agreements.
- • Verify that trade compliance controls are documented, implemented, and communicated across the organization.
- • Stay current on global trade regulations, sanctions updates, and industry best practices.
- • Lead enterprise-wide implementation of the internal compliance program for trade.
- • Develop risk assessments and mitigation strategies for products, markets, suppliers, and customers.
- • Oversee internal reporting mechanisms and case management for trade compliance concerns.
