Description
Teach undergraduate and graduate chemistry courses and oversee laboratory instruction. Lead an independent research program on chemical properties, reactions, and analytical methods; secure funding, publish, mentor students, and contribute service to the department and university.
  • • Design and deliver undergraduate and graduate lectures in organic, analytical, inorganic, physical, or materials chemistry.
  • • Supervise and ensure quality and safety of student laboratory work.
  • • Evaluate and grade coursework, laboratory performance, assignments, and papers.
  • • Develop, administer, and grade examinations.
  • • Maintain attendance, grades, and other required student records.
  • • Develop syllabi, assignments, problem sets, and lab manuals.
  • • Hold office hours to advise and assist students.
  • • Lead the planning, evaluation, and revision of curricula, course content, and instructional methods.
  • • Mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate research, theses, and teaching assistants.
  • • Stay current with advances in chemistry through literature, collaboration, and professional conferences.
  • • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
  • • Lead an independent research program and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, or digital media.
  • • Advise students on academic pathways, research opportunities, and career options.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on teaching innovations and interdisciplinary research.
  • • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees addressing policy and academic matters.
  • • Write competitive grant proposals to obtain external research funding.
  • • Participate in student recruitment, outreach, and placement activities.
  • • Prepare and submit required instructional, assessment, and research reports.
  • • Perform administrative and leadership duties, such as program coordination or serving as department chair.
  • • Advise and support student organizations and clubs.
  • • Curate bibliographies and specialized reading lists for courses and research groups.
  • • Participate in campus, alumni, and community engagement events.
  • • Provide professional consulting or outreach to government, industry, or nonprofits.
  • • Establish, teach, and enforce safety protocols for handling chemicals, equipment, and hazardous materials.
  • • Manage teaching and research resources, including selection, ordering, and maintenance of textbooks, chemicals, and laboratory equipment.
  • • Serve in professional societies, editorial boards, and grant or manuscript review panels.
  • • Write letters of recommendation for students and trainees.
  • • Oversee maintenance, compliance, and orderly operations of laboratory facilities.
