Description
Assistant Professor of Chemistry who teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, mentors students, and establishes an independent research program. Responsibilities include curriculum development, laboratory oversight and safety, scholarly publication, grant writing, and service to the department, university, and profession.
  • • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas such as general, organic, analytical, or physical chemistry.
  • • Develop and deliver lectures, discussions, and active-learning activities.
  • • Design, supervise, and assess laboratory instruction.
  • • Evaluate and grade exams, lab reports, assignments, and projects.
  • • Create syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and other course materials.
  • • Maintain attendance, grades, and required academic records.
  • • Hold regular office hours to advise and assist students.
  • • Plan, assess, and revise curricula, course content, and instructional methods.
  • • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers and teaching assistants.
  • • Establish and lead an independent, externally funded research program.
  • • Write and submit grant proposals to federal, state, or private sponsors.
  • • Conduct original research and publish in peer-reviewed journals and other outlets.
  • • Present research at conferences, seminars, and departmental forums.
  • • Stay current with advances in chemistry through literature and professional engagement.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on teaching innovations and research projects.
  • • Advise students on academic planning, research opportunities, and careers.
  • • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • • Participate in student recruitment, outreach, and retention activities.
  • • Prepare and submit instructional, research, and compliance reports.
  • • Ensure compliance with safety regulations; train students in safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
  • • Select, order, and oversee maintenance of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and supplies.
  • • Write letters of recommendation for students and trainees.
  • • Engage with professional societies and disciplinary service.
  • • Foster partnerships with industry or government as appropriate.
