Description
Teach postsecondary lecture and laboratory courses on chemical properties, reactions, and analysis methods. Emphasizes effective instruction, student assessment, and laboratory safety; contributes to curriculum development, advising, and departmental service, with limited research expectations.
  • • Prepare and deliver lectures and demonstrations on general, organic, analytical, and physical chemistry topics to postsecondary students.
  • • Supervise and instruct students in laboratory techniques, procedures, and safe practices.
  • • Evaluate and grade class work, laboratory performance, homework, and papers using clear rubrics.
  • • Create, administer, and grade quizzes and examinations.
  • • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and other required course records in the LMS.
  • • Develop and update syllabi, lab manuals, homework, and handouts.
  • • Hold regular office hours to advise and assist students with coursework.
  • • Plan, assess, and revise course content, learning outcomes, and teaching methods.
  • • Train and oversee teaching assistants or laboratory aides.
  • • Guide students in laboratory projects, internships, or capstone experiences.
  • • Stay current in chemistry and chemical education through literature, workshops, and conferences.
  • • Lead and facilitate inclusive classroom and lab discussions.
  • • Engage in instructional improvement or applied projects and share results through presentations or publications.
  • • Advise students on program requirements, transfer pathways, and career options in chemistry-related fields.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum alignment, scheduling, and assessment.
  • • Serve on departmental or college committees and participate in accreditation or program review.
  • • Assist with writing or supporting proposals for instructional or laboratory equipment funding.
  • • Support student recruitment, orientation, registration, and placement activities.
  • • Prepare and submit course-related reports and documentation on time.
  • • Coordinate course or lab logistics, such as scheduling, staffing, and inventory.
  • • Mentor or advise student clubs and organizations related to STEM.
  • • Compile reading lists and bibliographies for supplemental learning.
  • • Participate in campus outreach and community science events.
  • • Establish, communicate, and enforce safety policies for chemicals, equipment, and hazardous materials.
  • • Select, order, and maintain textbooks, chemicals, lab supplies, and instructional equipment.
  • • Serve in professional societies or working groups to enhance teaching practice.
  • • Write letters of recommendation for students and graduates.
  • • Ensure laboratories are clean, organized, and properly prepared; coordinate with technical staff as needed.
