Description
Teach undergraduate and graduate music courses in areas such as theory, history, performance, composition, music technology, and education; mentor students; direct ensembles; and pursue scholarly or creative activity. Combine teaching with research, performance, and service to the department and institution.
- • Evaluate and grade students' performances, compositions, projects, exams, and papers.
- • Demonstrate and teach vocal, instrumental, and ensemble techniques.
- • Prepare students for juries, recitals, auditions, licensure, and other assessments.
- • Prepare and deliver lectures and studios on topics such as music theory, aural skills, music history, pedagogy, and technology.
- • Organize ensembles or performance groups and direct rehearsals and concerts.
- • Develop course materials, including syllabi, assignments, repertoire lists, and handouts.
- • Lead and moderate class discussions, critiques, and masterclasses.
- • Stay current with developments in music scholarship, pedagogy, and technology through literature, conferences, and collaborations.

- • Maintain attendance, grades, juries, recital credits, and other required academic records.
- • Conduct research or creative activity in music and disseminate work through publications, recordings, scores, or performances.
- • Supervise teaching assistants, student teachers, internships, independent studies, and research projects.
- • Plan, assess, and revise curricula, courses, and instructional methods to meet program outcomes and accreditation standards.
- • Hold regular office hours to mentor and assist students.
- • Create, administer, and grade examinations, juries, and auditions, or oversee this work.
- • Participate in student recruitment, auditions, orientation, and placement activities.
- • Select and procure scores, instruments, software, textbooks, and performance repertoire.
- • Collaborate with faculty on curriculum, ensemble programming, research, and performance initiatives.
